September Perseids - radio results

2008 SPE - Radio results

Further to reports of enhanced meteor activity on the morning of 2008 09 09, I'd add the following form my own observations made on 143.05 MHz. My radio results don't provide any information regarding the radiant, but it seems reasonable that this activity is associated with the visual reports of enhanced activity from a radiant in Perseus. The altitude of the SPE radiant (α = 60°, δ = +47°) is shown on the chart below and was certainly well placed at the time of the observation.

Counts: The 143.05 MHz system that I use is deliberately designed to be insensitive to smaller meteors and so the counts are generally low. My hourly counts showed a small peak in counts during the hour between 2008 09 09 08:00 and 2008 09 09 09:00.

2008 SPE Hour Count

Duration: Looking at the echo duration measured in each hour, there is a very distinct increase echo duration between the hours 2008 09 09 05:00 and 2008 09 09 9:00 UT, with a peak seen in the hour 2008 09 09 08:00 - 09:00 UT.

2008 SPE Hour Duration

Detail: Looking at the counts and echo duration, for 2008 09 09, in ten minute intervals, the records giving increased echo-duration stretch from 2008 09 09 3:40 - 12:10 UT, with the concentration in the interval 2008 09 09 05:20 and 2008 09 09 08:40 UT.
